Fiction and non-fiction selections that are by, for and about women.

The Women's Studies Reading Group meets the first Thursday of every month from 6:30-8 pm at the Downtown Library. If you enjoy reading fiction and non-fiction selections that are by, for and about women, reading about different cultures and historical perspectives, and being introduced to new authors, new ideas and new friends, please join us. New group members are always welcome! 

Spring Titles:

  • April Discussion - Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
  • May Discussion - Away by Amy Bloom. Please note - May's meeting will be held in the Unconference Room.

Summer Titles:

  • June Discussion - Sarah's Key by Tatiana Rosnay.
  • July Discussion - The Farm by Joanne Ramos.
  • August Discussion - The Memory Keeper of Kyiv by Erin Littleken. This title is available on hoopla - there is no Book Club Kit.

About the branch

The Downtown Library is located at 450 5th Avenue SE, in the heart of Downtown Cedar Rapids. It is a 94,000 square foot building with a variety of civic spaces and a vibrant collection of library materials. Special features of this location are the Whipple Auditorium, a 200 seat auditorium overlooking Greene Square; and the LivingLearning Roof, a green roof with public seating and space to hold special events. Roasters Café is located in the Downtown Library, providing a full service coffee shop for visitors, as well as catering for meetings and special events.
