Community conversation about the Impeachment Process with Dr. Richard Barrett of Mt. Mercy University. Answers to your questions - without judgement - about this rare and complex process.
Your public library is one of the few institutions in the world where people have free access to information and thereby the opportunity to participate in all aspects of society. Tonight's speaker, Dr. Richard Barrett, will provide information and insight about the Impeachment Process. The Constitution permits Congress to remove presidents before their term is up if enough lawmakers vote to say that they committed “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” How does the process work? How long does it take? What constitutes "high crimes and misdemeanors"? Dr. Barrett will answer your questions - without judgement - about this rare and complex process.
Richard Barrett attended Yale Law School, and worked as a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and in the U.S. Senate. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California at San Diego. He taught at the University of Southern California, and currently teaches Political Science at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dr. Barrett serves as the Director of the Honors Program and Coordinator and Adviser for Mount Mercy University's Pre-Law program. He has traveled extensively, and once lived in a straw hut in West Africa (without electricity or water) for a month.
