Get creative with Kalmia Strong, the program director of the artist-led, community-driven, contemporary art center, Public Space One, in Iowa City. Kalmia brings her expertise in book arts and her collection of zines from the Iowa City community to explore self-expression and community connection through this art form. Zines are hand-made publications reproduced by hand or photocopied with typically fewer than 100 in circulation. With Kalmia's help participants will create their own zines on topics of their choice.
Clay Monster - Friday, January 24*
Make your own ceramic monster with the help of the experts from the Iowa Ceramics Center. The mobile clay lab will be visiting the Ladd Library to help participants create a ceramic monster. To cure the creations the lab will take participants’ items back to the Ceramic Center to fire in their kilns. Join us for this FREE and one-of-a-kind experience.

Want to learn how to make beautiful paper? Join book artist Amy Childress, graduate student enrolled in University of Iowa's Center for the Book program, and make your own paper. Amy will bring several different kinds of papers and talk to us a bit about the history of paper making before helping participants make their very own papers.

The Ladd Library is located at 3750 Williams Blvd SW and is a 16,000 square foot facility. It features one community room with space for up to 50 people, which can be utilized for meetings and special events. The Ladd Library has a wonderful collection of materials, public computers, a children's library, and space to sit and read or tables to work or gather.
