Get a team together for an afternoon in the style of a classic television gameshow. Registration required. *See the longer event description for a summary of rules etc.

Sign up a team of 3-5 to play in this afternoon of family friendly gameshow shenanigans. We recommend at least one team member be 14 years or older, but all ages are welcome to participate. Teams are asked to arrive by 12:50 pm so play order can be determined.

Our game will follow many of the same rules of the well known televised game show. 

Basic Rules Summary

  • Teams will take turns to ensure every team gets at least ten minutes or two rounds on the stage!
  • The game features two competing teams, each represented by three members, who compete to determine the answers to survey questions.
  • Each round begins with a "face-off" question that serves as a toss-up between two opposing contestants. 
  • The first contestant to buzz in gives an answer; if it is the most popular, their team immediately wins the face-off. Otherwise, the opponent responds and the team member providing the higher-ranked answer wins. 
  • If neither contestant's answer is on the board, the other eight contestants have a chance to respond, one at a time from alternating sides, until an answer is revealed. The team that wins the face-off may choose to play the question or pass control to their opponents.
  • The team with control of the question then tries to win the round by guessing all of the remaining concealed answers, with each member giving one answer in sequence. Giving an incorrect answer, or failing to respond, earns a strike.
  • Two strikes gives their opponents a chance to "steal" the points for the round by guessing any one of the remaining answers. Otherwise, the points are awarded to the team that originally had control.

About the branch

The Downtown Library is located at 450 5th Avenue SE, in the heart of Downtown Cedar Rapids. It is a 94,000 square foot building with a variety of civic spaces and a vibrant collection of library materials. Special features of this location are the Whipple Auditorium, a 200 seat auditorium overlooking Greene Square; and the LivingLearning Roof, a green roof with public seating and space to hold special events. Roasters Café is located in the Downtown Library, providing a full service coffee shop for visitors, as well as catering for meetings and special events.
