Every second Wednesday, September through November we'll meet via Zoom for a book discussion targeting a different age demographic.

Ibram X. Kendi is an American author, historian and scholar of race and discriminatory policy in the United States. In November we'll be discussing his book, How to be an Antiracist, where he explains that “the only way to undo racism is to consistently identify and describe it—and then dismantle it.” Kendi believes that it is not enough to simply be not racist, but we need to be antiracist; "one who is supporting an antiracist policy through their actions or expressing an antiracist idea".

The first 15 people to register will receive a free copy of How to be an Antiracist. If you receive a free copy, you can either pick it up as a hold or via curbside pick-up. You will be notified when your copy is available. Other copies may be available for checkout. Once signed up, all participants will receive a Zoom link prior to the program. Recordings will be archived on the Cedar Rapids Public Library YouTube Channel.

This program is perfect for young adults or adults who would like to know more about Kendi's work, or those who are very knowledgeable and would like to share with the community.

As part of a larger Read Woke initiative, these book discussions will connect you to resources and services. You are also welcome to bring your own titles to share with the community.
